Work done on 33 out of 42 accident black spots in State

Improvement work has been completed at 33 out of the 42 identified road accident black spots across Uttarakhand, while work is underway at two locations and nine sites are yet to be addressed, officials of the Public Works Department (PWD) National Highways division said on Thursday.

Executive engineer Manish Dora said that four black spot proposals have been sent to the regional authority, one Detailed Project Report (DPR) has been prepared and two new black spots have recently been identified at Mohkampur flyover and Ballupur in Dehradun. He said that improvement work is currently in progress at one location each in Dehradun and Nainital districts. near Natthanpir Mazar, Himmatpur Chowk and Kashipur Road in Udham Singh Nagar district, the stretch from Stadium Tiraha to Ujjain Tiraha and Haldua in Nainital district. According to Dora, a DPR has also been prepared for the Pilibhit Road stretch between Charubeta and Mudeli in Udham Singh Nagar district. Regarding road safety measures, he said that third-party road safety audits have been completed on 1,454.33 kilometres of the State’s road network. He further stated that traffic calming measures have been installed at 323 of the 760 identified junctions. Signage installation has been completed on 1,483.02 kilometres out of a targeted 2,003.59 kilometres, while road marking work has been completed on 1,454.75 kilometres of the 1,951.46 kilometre network identified for the exercise.

The National Highway division has been undertaking various road safety interventions at accident-prone locations as part of efforts to reduce crashes and improve traffic management on major routes. Work on the remaining black spots and other road safety measures is continuing across the State, Dora added.
