A car dealer allegedly cheated the Khanpur MLA Umesh Kumar of Rs 4.5 lakh on the pretext of selling him a vintage Morris car. The incident came to light after the MLA’s manager filed the complaint at Rajpur police station.
As per the complaint, the deal was made through WhatsApp with a car dealer from Ranchi, Jharkhand. The complainant stated that in August 2025, the accused had offered to sell an old Morris car and shared photographs of the vehicle through WhatsApp. He further said that trusting the seller, the buyer had agreed to purchase the car for Rs 4.5 lakh. It was decided that the vehicle would be delivered in Dehradun. “After the deal was okayed, the entire amount was transferred in four instalments to the bank account provided by the accused. However, after receiving the money, the accused neither delivered the car, nor returned the money paid and he even stopped responding to phone calls and messages,” the MLA’s manager said.
Rajpur police station in-charge, P D Bhatt said that the police are examining bank accounts and online transactions linked to the case. “Further legal action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation,” he added.
