52 nabbed partying illegally with 10 women in Ramnagar resort

The Nainital district Anti-Human Trafficking Unit, Special Operation Group and Ramnagar police raided a resort in Ramnagar on Saturday and arrested 52 men who were indulging in an illegal party with 10 women from other States and abroad The women were reportedly hired to dance, some fake currency notes were thrown at them, alcohol was served and objectionable acts were reportedly committed during the party. A minor was also apprehended from the event.

Addressing the media here on Sunday, Nainital senior superintendent of police Manjunath TC said the raid was conducted at Akron Resort in Sanwalde following specific information. The accused were found consuming alcohol while women were performing dances. The men were allegedly showering the performers with imitation currency notes resembling Indian currency and engaging in obscene acts.

During interrogation, the main accused, Umendra Kumar, reportedly told police that he owns a pesticide company in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, and had brought company associates to the resort for entertainment. He further stated that the resort had arranged for women performers from outside for the event.

The SSP said that no entries relating to the event or guests were found in the resort’s official register, indicating violations of mandatory record-keeping norms. During the search, police recovered cartons of liquor, beer, imitation Indian currency notes and several other objectionable items. Kumar had contacted the resort manager Lokendra Chowdhary 10 days ago demanding arrangements for liquor, women and alleged “extra service”. The resort was booked from July 4 to 5 for about Rs 2.20 lakh. According to the police, women were arranged for Rs 10,000 each. Based on the findings, the resort was sealed.

The SSP said the arrested women include individuals from Nepal, West Bengal and other places. All the accused have been arrested and sent to judicial custody under relevant provisions of the law. The 10 women were also taken into custody as part of the investigation. Police said further investigation is underway to determine the roles of all those involved and whether additional persons were connected to the incident.
