Transport secretary Ravinath Raman reviewed electric bus operations and directed officials to rationalise the routes. The focus will be on shorter routes and higher frequency. According to officials, Raman recently inspected the special purpose vehicle designed for the operation of electric buses at the Regional Transport Office in Dehradun.
He also examined the status of electric charging stations being built in Dehradun and Haridwar, instructing the responsible organisation to adhere to the established timeline. During this review, he emphasised the need to rationalise bus routes, including 100 in Dehradun and 37 in Haridwar, again prioritising shorter routes and higher frequency. The main objective is to encourage people to utilize the public transport system, officials reported.
Officials further informed that the secretary closely observed the vehicle registration process in the Vahan system and the driving license application process in the Sarathi system at the RTO office. Officials stated that Raman instructed that applicants visiting the office should not face any difficulties and that all necessary facilities, such as water and restrooms, should be readily available.
Additional transport secretary Reena Joshi, additional transport commissioner SK Singh, deputy transport commissioner Sunil Sharma, regional transport officer of the Dehradun Division Sandeep Saini and RTO (Enforcement and Road Safety) Dehradun Division Anita Chamola, among other officials concerned, were also present at the review.
