Food safety teams inspect hotels in Dehradun and Tehri

The Food Safety and Drug Administration continued its surprise inspections on Wednesday at hotels and restaurants in Dehradun and Tehri districts to check food quality and hygiene. The teams collected food samples for laboratory testing and issued improvement notices to two hotels in Dehradun.

The team directed the hotels to follow the First in, First Out (FIFO) and First Expired, First Out (FEFO) systems.

In Rishikesh, the team inspected the kitchens and stores of Modi Retreat, Ganga Kinare, Holy Water and Seven Seas on Veerbhadra Road. Officials checked the dairy products used in food preparation, their sources, purchase bills and other raw materials.

Officials also checked the medical examination records of kitchen workers and reports on the quality of water used for cooking. Samples of milk, arhar dal and whole cumin were collected for laboratory testing.

In Tehri, the team inspected hotels in Muni Ki Reti and Tapovan. The kitchens and storage areas of Lemon Tree, Divine Resort, Sterling and Palm Bliss were checked. Officials inspected the source of dairy products. The team also checked kitchen hygiene and directed hotel staff to follow the FIFO system. Medical examination records of kitchen workers and water testing reports were also checked.

Around 10 food samples were collected from the hotels in Tehri. The samples were collected and sent to a laboratory for testing. The FSDA officials said that inspections aimed at preventing the use of analogue paneer and non-dairy products and ensuring that hotels follow food safety and hygiene standards.
