A slew of decisions was taken regarding the upcoming Shri Ma Nanda Devi Festival which is to commence on September 16 and continue till September 23. Speaking of the preparations being made for the annual religious congregation, the chairperson of the Nainital municipal council, Saraswati Khetwal said that various tenders, including those for door to door garbage collection and segregation work within the civic body limits had been presented before the civic board for approval. “The board unanimously approved, in public interest, the tendering/procurement for door-to-door garbage collection, local transportation and transportation of garbage to Haldwani trenching ground in all 15 wards under the jurisdiction of the municipality,” she added.
She further stated that apart from fair publicity and signage, no political posters, banners, flexi and hoardings would be allowed to be put up in the fair premises. “In case of violation, legal action will be taken against the violators.
“Another decision taken is that small businessmen and stall owners coming from outside the state will not be allowed to do any kind of business in the fair premises. For this, separate arrangements will be made as per the requirement. The number and rates of small and big swings to be installed for entertainment in the fair premises will have to be mentioned in the tender and for security reasons, the time limit for its operation has been fixed till 8 PM,” she informed.
Besides, the board approved the proposal of hiring 40 ‘Environment Friends’ for 20 days through outsourcing at the fair. Also, approval was given for installing posters, banners and hoardings in the fair premises and other places across the city as in previous years, for wide publicity of the necessary guidelines for the religious festival.
