Monday, 21 March 2022 | PNS | Dehradun

The Congress will begin rounds of meetings on Monday to review the party’s performance in the recently concluded Uttarakhand Assembly elections and to deliberate upon various organisational issues. The Congress State in-charge Devendra Yadav and All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary Avinash Pande will arrive in Dehradun on Monday and begin chairing the meetings in the afternoon. The review meetings will begin at the Congress Bhawan at 3 PM with all the party’s MLAs, candidates and senior leaders of Pithoragarh, Bageshwar and Champawat districts. An hour later, Yadav and Pande will hold a review meeting with the party’s MLAs, candidates and senior leaders of Almora and Nainital districts. This meeting will be followed by a meeting with the MLAs, candidates and senior leaders of the Udham Singh Nagar district while after this, the two leaders will hold a review meeting with the MLAs, candidates and senior leaders of Chamoli, Rudraprayag and Pauri districts. The last meeting of the day will be held with MLAs, candidates and senior leaders of Tehri and Uttarkashi districts. The round of meetings will begin on Tuesday morning with MLAs, candidates and senior leaders of Haridwar district followed by a meeting with MLAs, candidates and senior leaders of Dehradun district. The last review meeting on the second meeting will be held by Yadav and Pande with former chief minister, former Pradesh Congress Committee president and the former Leader of Opposition along with other senior party leaders.

It is pertinent to mention here that though Congress leaders in Uttarakhand have not sparked any controversy in recent days with their statements, the review meetings are expected to entail intense discussions considering the blame game seen in the party after its defeat in the Assembly elections. Soon after the election results were announced, former Leader of Opposition Pritam Singh, former chief minister Harish Rawat, the party’s State working president Ranjit Rawat and senior leader Govind Singh Kunjwal among others have made statements that created an uncomfortable situation for the party. Various party leaders and candidates have alleged internal sabotage and averred that infighting are major reasons for the party’s defeat in the recently concluded Assembly elections in the state.
