Agency behind NARI 2025 survey to meet authorities

PValue Analytics, the agency behind the National Annual Report and Index on Women’s Safety (NARI) 2025 that placed Dehradun among the country’s 10 most unsafe cities out of 31 surveyed, is set to appear before authorities on Monday following a notice issued by the police on September 3.
The agency had been directed to submit the data used in the survey within three days. After the report’s release last week, Dehradun police rejected the findings and said the survey’s sample size was too small to represent the city. According to police, the survey used computer-assisted telephone and personal interviews with 12,770 women across 31 cities, including 400 participants from Dehradun, which has a population of about nine lakh women.
Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh assigned the inquiry to Rishikesh superintendent of police Jaya Baluni. Baluni sent a notice to the company’s founder and managing director Prahlad Raut to appear with the data. The notice said further action will follow examination of the figures.
Singh said that the inquiry began after officials observed that the report contradicted police records and affected the perception of safety among women, girls and parents in the city. The SSP told The Pioneer that the company’s representatives will meet the police and the Uttarakhand State Commission for Women on Monday. Police will decide further steps after reviewing the submitted data, he added.
