Kumaun University signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (JAIST). The KU officials said that this agreement would strengthen academic, research and cultural cooperation between the two institutions.
Under this agreement, three to four graduation students of the university would get an opportunity to study in an internship or one-year course at JAIST.  Importantly, these students will not be charged admission fee, examination fee and tuition fee during that one-year course and the successful students will be awarded a postgraduate degree from JAIST, which will make them eligible for PhD in the same institute in future. This agreement includes exchange of not only students but also teachers, KU officials said.

Hailing the MoU, the KU vice- chancellor, Prof. Diwan Singh Rawat said that this collaboration with Japan would establish deep and lasting academic relations between the two institutions in the future and will prove helpful in strengthening the global ranking and reputation of the university.
