Police arrested a man on Thursday for allegedly killing his wife on learning that she was planning to divorce him. As per police sources, he shot her dead while she was sleeping at her home in Subhash Nagar, Clement Town on September 21. While the accused was identified as Dheeraj Pawar alias Lallu, the deceased was Kajal.
Police further said that Kajal had been found dead on a bed with gunshot injuries to her head and abdomen.
The Dehradun senior superintendent of police, Pramendra Dobal said that the accused had initially informed the emergency control room, stating that his wife had been accidentally shot during a domestic fight. “However, he switched off his mobile phone and fled. A joint team of Clement Town police and the Special Operations Group (SOG) was formed to trace him,” he added.
It is learnt from police that the accused had been living with his wife and their two children at her parental home in Subhash Nagar. Kajal had not, however, allowed him to enter the house or meet their children for about three months.
Pawar is said to have told police during interrogation that he had learnt about her plan to seek a divorce a month ago and then planned the murder.
