Five members of a family sustained burn injuries in Dehradun on Sunday morning after an LPG cylinder leaked overnight and triggered a blast due to electrical sparking. The incident occurred in a house located behind Mahant Indresh Hospital of East Patel Nagar.
The Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh said that the police from Patelnagar reached the spot after receiving the information through the control room. Upon arrival, they found two adults and three children injured from the explosion. All five were immediately transported to Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) Hospital for treatment with the help of emergency services.
He informed that a forensic team and the bomb disposal squad were also called to the site for investigation. It was revealed in the initial inquiry that Vijay Sahu (38) lived with his family in a small room where the windows and doors had remained shut since the night. A gas stove and cylinder were present in the same room. Gas had slowly leaked from the cylinder throughout the night. Around 6:45 AM, a spark from an exposed electric wire near a switch reportedly ignited the gas inside the room, causing a blast.
The explosion resulted in burn injuries to all family members and caused damage to part of the room, including a wall and a door, as per Singh. He stated that the forensic examination confirmed that the explosion was caused by LPG leakage and that the injuries were due to flame burns. Besides Sahu, the injured include his wife Sunita (35) and their children Amar (11), Sunny (8) and Anamika (8). All injured are getting medical treatment at GDMC, he added.
