PIONEEREDGE NEWS SERVICE | Dehradun

The authorities have stressed that no personnel is stranded in an emergency situation in the NHPC power house at Dharchula in Pithoragarh district, a day after landslide debris had trapped 19 men inside the tunnel. However, some activists have shared video clips on social media claiming that some workers are still stuck in the power house and that all have not been rescued in the real sense.

Landslide debris had blocked the mouth and the emergency shaft of the tunnel at the NHPC power plant on Dhauliganga in Dharchula on Sunday.

The 19 men inside were trapped in the tunnel and the authorities started a rescue operation which initially managed to get eight men out. The district magistrate Vinod Goswami said that the remaining 11 persons were also rescued later on the same day. However, some activists have shared video clips on social media claiming that all the workers have not been rescued as some are yet to come out.

The DM clarified on Monday that all the 19 officers and workers were rescued on Monday. “Nobody is stranded in the tunnel or power house at present and movement is open through the emergency access. The minimum staff needed to operate the power house is present and there is no such emergency situation in the power house in which anybody is trapped. The removal of debris outside the tunnel is continuing and is expected to be completed soon,” he said.
