BEO Bahadrabad Brijpal Singh suspended in bribery case

The State administration has suspended the block education officer (BEO) of Bahadrabad, Haridwar, Brijpal Singh. He was recently caught red handed by a team of Vigilance department while accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000. The BEO had demanded the bribe for issuing renewal of recognition certificate for the Police Modern School. The school is operated by the 40th battalion of provincial armed constabulary (PAC), Haridwar.
Taking a stern note of the incident, the Education minister Dhan Singh Rawat had directed the department to take action on the BEO following which the department took action under the Uttarakhand civil services (discipline and appeal) regulation -2003. The department has also handed over the charge of Bhadarabad BEO to the Principal of Gaindikhata government Inter College, Haridwar.
Singh was arrested by the Vigilance department and a case under the prevention of corruption Act has been registered against him. Following the registration of the case, a departmental inquiry was initiated against the officer. The inquiry recommended suspension of the BEO.
In a statement the Education minister, Rawat said that the State government has made a policy of zero tolerance on corruption. He said the corruption, indiscipline and irregularities in the Education department will not be tolerated and the officers and employees involved in such cases will not be spared. The minister said that the BEO involved in the Haridwar bribery case has been suspended with immediate effect. He said that the department will continue to take strict action in the cases of corruption and financial irregularities.
