BIS hosts industry meet on World Consumer Rights Day

The Dehradun branch office of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), in collaboration with the SIDCUL Manufacturers Association of Uttarakhand, organised an “Industry Meet” on the occasion of World Consumer Rights Day at a city hotel on Monday.
The programme was inaugurated by director and head of the BIS Dehradun, Saurabh Tiwari. Addressing the gathering, he highlighted the critical role of standardisation and quality certification in ensuring consumer safety and strengthening the manufacturing sector. He also spoke about various incentives available for MSMEs and the support extended by the government and BIS to help industries adopt Indian Standards and obtain BIS certification.
Joint director at BIS, Neelam Singh, delivered a technical presentation on standards related to paper and plastic-based packaging. She elaborated on certification procedures, relevant BIS standards and the importance of compliance with Quality Control Orders. The presentation also underlined the significance of both voluntary and mandatory certification schemes in ensuring product quality, safety and consumer protection.
Representing the SIDCUL Manufacturers Association of Uttarakhand, Harinder Garg shared insights on the importance of maintaining quality standards to enhance industrial practices and competitiveness.
Around 40 delegates from various industries participated in the event. The meet aimed to engage with industry stakeholders and raise awareness about BIS initiatives, product certification schemes and licensing procedures. Participants were also informed about digital tools and services available on BIS portals and encouraged to share feedback for effective implementation of standards.
The event concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session, where participants addressed their queries related to BIS standards and certification processes.
