Education minister Dhan Singh Rawat launched a 100-day campaign against drug abuse from MKP PG College here on Saturday.
Addressing the launch ceremony, he said that drug abuse not only impacts the energy, potential and future of youth but also weakens society from within.
“The primary purpose of launching this campaign at MKP PG College is to empower the State’s daughters to become powerful leaders in social awareness against drug abuse. The women of the State have always brought about change through their strength, capabilities and social leadership,’’ he said.
Rawat added that in the coming 100 days, extensive awareness programmes against drug abuse will be organized in various schools and higher educational institutions, urging students to pledge a drug-free life.
Rawat exhorted the teachers to educate students about the ill effects of drug addiction and its social, mental and physical harms. He stated that protecting youth from drug addiction is not just the government’s responsibility but a shared responsibility of families, educational institutions and society as a whole. The minister expressed confidence that with the united participation of youth, women, and social and spiritual organizations, the commitment to a drug-free Uttarakhand will surely be realized.
In her address, Babita Didi of Prajapita Brahmakumari Ishwariya University said that instead of falling prey to addictions like drugs the youngsters should strengthen our lives with positive thoughts and healthy habits.
Principal of MKP PG College, Mamta Singh said the students of MKP PG College will play their role in building a healthy and strong society by becoming a lamp of awareness against the darkness of drug addiction.
