BJP criticises disruption by Congress MLAs in Assembly

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE | Dehradun

The Bharatiya Janata Party said that Congress MLAs created disruption and damaged property in the Assembly in Gairsain on Tuesday instead of addressing issues of disaster-affected people. The party State spokesman Suresh Joshi said that chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami stayed at ground zero for three days to assess the situation following the recent disaster, making him the first chief minister in the country to do so.

He said that Dhami has already discussed compensation and rehabilitation with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the government is providing relief to the affected people. Joshi said that every political party has the right to raise issues in the Assembly but no elected representative has the right to damage government property or use inappropriate language. He said that such actions violate democratic traditions and create disorder.

According to him, people of the State are witnessing how Congress is trying to create unrest in the Assembly instead of focusing on the concerns of affected citizens. He said that while the State is facing disaster, the opposition did not express solidarity with the affected families and chose to adopt what he called an unconstitutional approach. He said that the government is working to support the people while the opposition is focusing on personal interests.

On the question of compensation, Joshi stated the State government is assessing the damage at every level, including individual, government and social property. The government will ensure maximum support, including assistance for loss of life, injuries, treatment, residential houses and agricultural land. He added that the State has provided the highest level of disaster relief in the past 25 years. Joshi stated that the government has directed officials to act immediately if any negligence in relief distribution is reported. He said that there will be no discrimination in providing assistance and that issues of affected people must be resolved without delay.
