Man kills mother, burns body and home in Vikasnagar

The police have arrested a man on charges of matricide and setting their house on fire at Vikasnagar in Dehradun district. The Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh said that the accused, identified as Manmohan Singh (31) attacked his mother with a sharp-edged tool during an argument over money for drugs, then wrapped her body in a mattress and set the room on fire before fleeing.
The SSP said that the case came to light on August 8 when the victim’s husband Sanjay Singh Rana returned home from work after being informed by neighbours about a fire. He found his wife dead and his son missing. Based on his complaint, the police registered a case under Section 103 (1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
The SSP said that the victim’s son fled on a motorcycle with Rs 30,000 in cash and his clothes. Acting on intelligence and surveillance inputs, the police arrested him on Thursday from the Kulhal area.
The police recovered cash amounting to Rs 17,500 and the motorcycle along with the cleaver allegedly used in the murder. The SSP said that the accused is a drug addict with past cases under the NDPS Act and the Arms Act.
