A recent report by the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) reveals that Uttarakhand recorded a revenue surplus of Rs 5,310 crore in 2022-23. With this achievement, Uttarakhand has joined the ranks of States that have recorded a revenue surplus during this period.
The revenue surplus shows that the financial management of the State is good. The officials of the Finance department aver that despite the challenges of financial discipline in the past, the State achieved this feat on the strength of careful management and transparent policies. They pointed out that Uttarakhand was once counted among the ‘Bimaru’ States but the CAG report presents a healthy picture of the economy and is an evidence of the economic strength of the State.
Expressing happiness, the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that the achievement is a result of good governance policies adopted by the Uttarakhand government.
“Inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s commitment for the developed India, we have taken concrete steps toward financially empowering the State. This is not merely a statistical achievement, but a strong step toward economic self-reliance and a prosperous future of the State. The State government is pursuing a policy of transparency, accountability, and financial discipline with the resolve to make Uttarakhand a developed and self-reliant state,’’ he said.
