The Congress party held a massive protest outside the Uttarakhand Vidhan Sabha on Tuesday. Led by the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Ganesh Godiyal, a large number of party leaders and workers tried to storm into the Vidhan Sabha premises in Bharadisain. The administration had deployed a large number of police personnel on the roads leading to Bharadisain from Karnprayag and Gairsain. The police prevented the Congress workers at Jungle Chatti but many of them were able to reach Diwalikhal (located near the Vidhan Sabha building) where a skirmish between them and police occurred. Former chief minister Harish Rawat, former PCC president Karan Mahara, chairperson of the election management committee Harak Singh Rawat and all the senior leaders of Uttarakhand Congress participated in the protest which was held on the issues of atrocities on women, unemployment, justice for Ankita Bhandari, anti farmer policies of the State government and deteriorating health services. While the Congress workers and leaders participated in the protest, the party MLAs tried to corner the State government on the issue of deteriorating law and order inside the assembly. As soon as the proceedings of the day started on the second day of the budget session, the leader of opposition Yashpal Arya demanded work adjournment under rule 310 on the issue. The speaker Ritu Khanduri however allowed discussion under rule 58 on the subject. Later in the day while participating in the discussion, Arya said that the law and order situation in the State is pathetic and the government has failed to control the criminals. He said that the morale of the criminals is very high.
