Tourist spike & crumbling system: Nainital waits for Mussoorie-like system

PIONEER NEWS SERVICE: Nainital

With the surge in tourist footfalls in the Nainital valleys this weekend, things seem to be going from bad to worse with the existing system in the lake town crumbling.  Traffic chaos coupled with parking chaos has left the town in doldrums.  With things getting out of control, Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board (UTDB) has been mulling to initiate tourist registration system in Nainital on the line of Mussoorie.

There is an online portal for Mussoorie in which tourists have to provide their details before travelling like name, mobile number, vehicle details, place of stay and number of days they will stay. This helps the administration know how many tourists are coming on which day so that traffic, parking and emergency arrangements can be kept ready in advance.

The tourism experts say that such a system should be set into motion in Nainital, too.

Meanwhile, Nainital district magistrate, Vandana Singh informed that the government is currently conducting a survey of all the tourist places in the State, Nainital included. “It will be decided on the basis of the report whether the registration system will be implemented here or not,” she added.
