PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/ Dehradun

The chairman of the manifesto committee of Uttarakhand Congress, Bhuwan Kapdi has said that the committee will reach out to every section of the society to draft the manifesto of the party for the upcoming Vidhan Sabha elections. The manifesto will pave the way for the restoration of a true government in Uttarakhand which has been lacking from the last 10 years, he said.

Interacting with the media persons at Rajiv Bhawan on Tuesday, Kapdi said, “Those who harbour the illusion of a government are actually mere managers and they are insensitive and disconnected from the public. In a democracy, government does not only mean those in power or the administrative system, but also a system elected by the people, for the people and accountable to the people. In last 10 years there has been a lack of communication and sensitivity between the government and the public.’’

Kapdi added that the committee will hold interaction with the students, unemployed, farmers, government employees, ex-servicemen, contractual workers and all other sections of the society and include their issues in the manifesto. He said that unlike the past, the manifesto of the Congress party will be released much in advance so that it reaches all parts of the State and all sections of the society.

The convener of the manifesto committee Prem Bahukhandi said that Nehruvian socialism and Gandhian- Sarvodaya model will form the basis of the Congress party’s manifesto. He said that the Congress manifesto will focus on ensuring that health and social security are re-established as the core responsibilities of the government. Efforts to strengthen government schools, colleges and universities, improve government hospitals and restore the old pension scheme for the government employees will be done.

The manifesto committee member Suryakant Dhasmana said that during the BJP government the communication with people has ended completely.

Manifesto committee member Sujata Paul said that the aspirations, problems and suggestions of the people will become the political commitment of the Congress government towards the people.
