Death toll rises to 29 in Dehradun disaster, rescue continues

The death toll in the Dehradun disaster has risen to 29 as rescue teams recovered two more bodies on Friday, including one unidentified body found in Raiwala. According to official data, 24 identified victims and three unidentified victims have been reported so far in Dehradun, while two dead victims belong to Pithoragarh and Nainital districts.
The officials informed that 10 people are still missing and four are injured. Rescue efforts have saved nearly 900 people in the past five days so far. Relief operations are underway with the administration setting up camps in affected areas. In the Sahastradhara area, the district administration has acquired five hotels to provide shelter to about 60 affected families.
At the primary school in Makdochi and New Basti primary school in Kandwal Gaon, around 42 families are staying. In Doiwala’s Fun Valley camp, 18 families comprising nearly 80 individuals have taken shelter, as per the officials. Teams of NDRF, SDRF and the district administration are continuing extensive search and rescue operations in the disaster-hit areas.
The dog squad is also being used to locate the bodies under the debris. The officials informed that relief work will continue until all missing people are traced and the lives of affected families return to normal.
