Dharali disaster: Health dept on high alert after CM’s instructions

Following the instructions of the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, the State Health department has come into an alert mode in the aftermath of the Dharali disaster. Informing this, the Health secretary, R Rajesh Kumar said that revamped health services have been put into place so as to ensure that   the affected individuals receive timely treatment in any emergency.

“Beds have been kept reserved in Dehradun, Rishikesh and other major medical institutions to provide immediate care for the injured to be brought from the disaster-affected area. To be more specific, 150 general beds have been reserved at Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) Hospital, 80 general beds at Deen Dayal Upadhyay District Hospital (Coronation) and 50 general beds at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Rishikesh. Arrangements for doctors, nursing staff, paramedical personnel and the supply of medicines have also been completed at these hospitals,” he added.

He further informed that in anticipation of mental stress and depression cases cropping up among the disaster-affected, the government has deployed three psychiatrists in Dharali to provide immediate counselling and psychological support. “These doctors will work in coordination with the local administration and visit relief camps to connect with the community,” he said. 

The Health secretary further shared that the chief medical officers (CMOs) of all districts and disaster response teams have been kept on alert. “The 108 ambulance service will remain active around the clock. This is a sensitive time and no negligence will be tolerated. In line with the CM’s instruction, the Health department has taken full preparations so that no patient coming from the affected area is denied treatment,” he added.
