Education builds character and develops intellect of students: Governor

Governor lieutenant general ( retd) Gurmit Singh has said that the true purpose of education is not merely the development of intellect but the building of character. He added that honesty, discipline, and moral values have become even more important in today’s changing global landscape.
He was addressing the sixth convocation of Uttaranchal University, Dehradun on Friday. Governor stated that the ceremony is not merely an occasion to confer degrees but a testament to the students’ hard work and commitment. He expressed hope that the graduating students will use their knowledge to build society and the nation.
Exhorting the students to prioritize ‘nation first’, he said that knowledge is meaningful only when it contributes to the nation’s development. He said that the role of youth is paramount in building a developed India by 2047.
The Governor praised the university’s efforts to promote multidisciplinary education, research, innovation and a start-up culture.
In the ceremony the governor conferred medals and degrees to the graduating students, congratulated them and wished them a bright future. He also released the university’s souvenir on the occasion.
The vice chancellor Dharmabuddhi presented an account of the achievements of the university.
University president Jitendra Joshi, vice president Ankita Joshi, pro VC Rajesh Bahuguna, registrar Anuj Rana, members of the university’s academic council and executive council and students attended the ceremony.
