The Uttarkashi district magistrate Prashant Arya visited the site and inspected the status of the lake on Monday. He said that the flow of water from the lake is presently normal. However, in case of a flood, there is a possibility that a large tree carried by the earlier flood may stall the flow of water. Considering this, he directed the officials concerned to remove the remains of the tree.
The DM also directed that those living on the banks of the river should be shifted to safer locations. There should not be any delay in providing food, drinking water, clothes, medicines and other essential items to any affected family in the area, he said. The district administration along with the State Disaster Response Force, police, Health department and Revenue department teams are involved in search, rescue and relief efforts in the disaster-affected area.
Arya said that the district administration is monitoring the situation round the clock with all aspects of the search and relief operations being monitored too. The authorities are aiming to shelter the affected people in secure locations while providing them food and all other essentials, he said. The DM also appealed to the local people to cooperate with the authorities to enable them to expedite the rescue and relief efforts.
