‘Evil eye’ Rakhi designs in demand this Rakshabandhan

Paltan Bazaar and Raja Road are teeming with a diverse assortment of Rakhis, ranging from traditional styles to those featuring ‘evil eye’ motifs. This year, it has been noted that evil eye Rakhis are particularly popular among shoppers, with a growing demand for them compared to other designs. Rakhi vendors have reported a noticeable increase in sales as the festival approaches.

Vinay Kumar, who has set up a small Rakhi stand at Paltan Bazaar, expressed his enthusiasm about the surge in sales. He said that this year, a variety of evil eye Rakhis designs have become available. Additionally, many visitors to his stall are choosing to purchase these evil eye-themed Rakhis. Kumar stated that the prices for evil eye Rakhis at his stall range from Rs 10 to Rs 250, and customers are purchasing them enthusiastically. The sale of Rakhis is expected to increase significantly as Rakshabandhan approaches, with just a few days left, he said.

Another Rakhi vendor, Rohit Gupta, who has a clothing shop in Paltan Bazaar, said that he sets up a small stall for Rakhis during Rakshabandhan because the sales are lucrative. He said that this year, the evil eye Rakhi designs are particularly trending, with 50 to 60 per cent of customers opting for and purchasing evil eye Rakhis for their brothers.

In addition to evil eye Rakhi, the demand for religious Rakhis remains strong. Kapil Aggarwal, another Rakhi shop owner, acknowledged that while evil eye Rakhi designs are popular, this does not mean that traditional and religious Rakhi designs have fallen out of favour. He observed that younger customers tend to prefer evil eye Rakhis, while adults are more inclined towards traditional and religious designs, he said.
