Noted folk singer from the Tharu tribe, Rinku Rana (33) died after being hit by an allegedly overloaded tractor trolley when she was on her two-wheeler on the side of the road near Bichpuri at Nanakmatta in Udham Singh Nagar district on Thursday. She was returning from Holy celebrations with her paternal family in Nanakmatta when the mishap occurred.
A resident of Naugja Kalyanpur in the same district, Rana had gone to Bichpuri Khairna to celebrate holi with her paternal family. According to sources, at about 12:30 PM on Thursday, she was talking on the phone with someone while sitting on her two-wheeler on the roadside when a tractor trolley reportedly overloaded with bricks hit her.
She sustained serious injuries in the mishap while the tractor trolley driver ran away from the scene of the mishap. The locals transported the injured woman to the sub-district hospital in Sitarganj where the doctors declared her dead. The police also reached on being informed about the accident and death. The police took the victim’s two-wheeler and the tractor trolley into possession while the body was sent to Khatima for post mortem examination.
