The success of the protest march to Raj Bhawan organised by the Congress party on Monday in provisional State capital Dehradun has boosted the morale of the party workers in the State. Held in the backdrop of the series of murders in provisional State capital Dehradun, the rally elicited good response from the Congress workers from all parts of the State especially Garhwal region. With the presence of the all the top leaders of the party including former chief minister Harish Rawat, the chairperson of the campaign committee Pritam Singh, head of the election management committee Harak Singh Rawat, leader of opposition in Vidhan Sabha Yashpal Arya, former PCC president Karan Mahara and others, the Pradesh Congress Committee president Ganesh Godiyal has succeeded in sending a message of unity in the party to the people of the State and to the party high command of the Congress party.
In an astute move, Godiyal had handed over the responsibility of the Dehradun rally to Pritam Singh who is the six-time MLA from Chakrata assembly constituency in Dehradun district. Being a mass leader and someone who single- handedly ensured success of the party in the recent Panchayat elections in Dehradun district, Pritam Singh threw his full might in making the rally a success.
After the end of the rally, the senior party leaders were seen congratulating each other for the good attendance in the rally. The in- charge of the Uttarakhand Congress, Kumari Selja who was present in the rally also appeared happy and congratulated PCC president Godiyal.
The success of the rally and the unity shown by the top leaders has also succeeded in sending a strong message to the party workers before the crucial Vidhan Sabha elections scheduled early next year that the party will register a very good performance in the elections.
One of the party workers Narendra Pratap Singh Pundir who had come to the rally from Srinagar said that similar rallies should be organised in different parts of the State to give a strong message to the electorate and to boost the morale of the party workers.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Congress party has got jolted by a series of electoral reversals in Uttarakhand. The party has lost the Lok Sabha election of 2014, Vidhan Sabha election of 2017, Lok Sabha election of 2019, Vidhan Sabha election of 2022 and Lok Sabha election of 2024 to the BJP. These successive defeats have affected the morale of the party workers of the Congress party and the success of the Dehradun rally has given something to cheer about to them.
