Inspection of health facilities in tehsils reveals shortage of staff, resources

Acting on the directive of the district magistrate Prashant Arya, the Uttarkashi district administration has launched an extensive inspection drives to evaluate the functioning of the primary health centres and community health centres operating in the tehsils of the district.
The sub-divisional magistrates conducted on-site inspection of the health centres in accordance with the DM’s directive. During the inspection, they looked into the attendance of the doctors and other staff, patient registration system, delivery room’s safety, hygiene and staff readiness, emergency services, medicine storage and vaccination rooms among others.
During an inspection of the Bhatwari primary health centre, SDM Shalini Negi noted deficiencies in cleanliness and directed immediate improvements. She also learnt that the post of the auxiliary nurse midwifery (ANM) has been vacant for the past two months.
Following a complaint about the closure of the Gangani primary health centre, an on-site inspection was conducted during which the centre was found closed. Later, the centre reopened with the cooperation of the chief medical officer.
In Dunda tehsil, the SDM Devanand Sharma inspected the PHCs in Dunda and Brahmakhal. During the review of health services, a shortage of X-ray technicians was identified, prompting the CMO to take necessary action. At the Dhauntari PHC, the need for more sanitation workers was highlighted.
In Barkot tehsil, the SDM Brijesh Kumar Tiwari inspected the Barkot Community Health Centre. The inspection revealed a shortage of dental assistants, cleaning staff and data entry operators.
In Purola tehsil, the SDM Mukesh Chand Ramola inspected the CHC and PHC during which a staff crunch was noted. The officiating medical officer informed the administration of the urgent need for a gynaecologist, orthopaedic specialist, CT scan and blood bank.
