Man sentenced to 10 years in jail for attempt to murder in Dehradun

The additional district and sessions judge-III, Dehradun has sentenced a man to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for attempting to murder a person with a sharp-edged weapon. The court found Rajan guilty under Section 307 of the IPC for attempted murder and delivered its verdict on June 5.
According to police, the case dates back to March 7, 2023, when a resident of Niranjanpur Sabzi Mandi area filed a complaint at Patelnagar police station. The complainant alleged that Rajan, native of Fatehpur, Uttar Pradesh had attacked his brother-in-law, Sonu Kumar, with a sharp-edged weapon, causing serious injuries.
Based on the complaint, police initially registered a case under Section 324 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and started an investigation. During the probe, investigators found evidence showing that the attack was more serious in nature. As a result, additional charges under Sections 326 and 307 of the IPC, including attempt to murder, were added to the case. Rajan was later arrested by the police.
After collecting evidence and recording statements, sub-inspector Mahavir Singh filed a charge sheet against the accused in court on June 1, 2023.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 50,000. The court further ordered that if the convict fails to pay the fine, he will have to serve an additional three months in jail.
