Mass communication & PR effective mediums for development: Khanduri

Vidhan Sabha speaker Ritu Khanduri said that mass communication and public relations have become effective mediums for the development of the nation and State, which can enable strong communication between the government and the public. She was speaking on the second day of the 47th All India Public Relations Conference-2025 organised by the Public Relations Society of India (PRSI) here on Sunday.

Stating that this is the age of information and communication, she said that the last eligible person can receive information about government schemes through mass communication. Khanduri said that the PR industry is consistently expanding but at the same time ensuring that information reaches the public in a reliable, transparent and effective manner is also a challenge.

Speaking on the occasion, former chief minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ said that mass communication has become the backbone of the nation’s development. In the changing scenario, the PR industry should especially focus on innovation, digital media and reliability to further strengthen the roots of democracy.

AIIMS Guwahati president and orthopaedic surgeon Dr BKS Sanjay said that Uttarakhand had made considerable progress in the past 25 years. The State had set new standards in education, health, medical education and infrastructural development, adding that there has been consistent development in the basic facilities.

The event also saw Health secretary R Rajesh Kumar receiving the PRSI national award for his contribution to health services in the State. He said that health services in the State are improving consistently under chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and Health minister Dhan Singh Rawat. Telemedicine services have been expanded while air ambulance service has also been started for remote areas. The State government’s aim is to provide quality health services till the remotest part of the State, he said.

Deliberations were held with a focus on health, science and information on the second day of the conference. Information director general Banshidhar Tiwari said that good governance depends on effective, transparent and sensitive communication. Government schemes succeed only if correct information reaches the public on time. He stressed on the need for further strengthening communication with the public through digital information systems and social media. Uttarakhand State Council For Science and Technology director general Durgesh Pant said that science, innovation and research form the basis of a developed India. He exhorted the youths to adopt scientific thinking, adding that research and society should be connected through science communication. Discussions were also held on other topics during the day.
