MCD intensifies property tax recovery to meet Rs 75 crore target

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun

The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) has intensified its property tax recovery drive with less than two months remaining to achieve its Rs 75 crore target for the current financial year.

Assistant municipal commissioner Vinay Pratap Singh stated that it has collected about Rs 48 crore so far. Notices are being issued to property owners who have not cleared their dues within the prescribed timeline under municipal tax provisions.

The list of defaulters includes private property owners as well as several national-level institutions, government buildings and government offices where significant dues remain pending, Singh said. Industrial units operating in the State Infrastructure and Industrial Development Corporation of Uttarakhand Limited (SIIDCUL) estates have also been identified for outstanding dues and recovery notices have been served to them.

He added that the recovery exercise is being carried out through a uniform enforcement mechanism, with no category of defaulter exempt from action. Officials also warned that in cases of continued non-payment, legal and administrative steps will be initiated in accordance with municipal laws.

Singh further said that to streamline collections and reduce compliance gaps, they are also organising special property tax collection camps in various areas. The camps are meant to provide on-the-spot assistance, address assessment-related grievances and facilitate immediate payment. Property tax constitutes a key component of the corporation’s revenue and is used to fund core civic services, including sanitation, road maintenance and urban infrastructure.
