MCD opens online applications for PMAY-U 2.0

PIONEER NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun

The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) has invited online applications from eligible urban residents under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) 2.0. The scheme, launched in September 2024, is set to continue for the next five years and aims to provide financial assistance to families living in urban areas who either own vacant land or reside in non-permanent houses.

As part of the scheme, each eligible beneficiary will receive Rs 2.75 lakh in financial support, with Rs 2.25 lakh contributed by the central government and Rs 50,000 by the State government. Dehradun mayor Saurabh Thapliyal stated that the application process is completely free and can only be done online. He warned residents not to trust any intermediaries or pay anyone to apply and advised them to visit the MCD office directly in case of confusion. He added that the scheme had already benefited many families in the past and continues to help provide housing to the needy across the country.

He said that the corporation is actively promoting the scheme to ensure more eligible residents are aware and can apply. Interested candidates can also scan the QR code displayed in posters or banners promoting the scheme to get full information.  Eligibility is based on income categories defined by the government. These include the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) with an annual household income of up to Rs three lakh, the Lower Income Group (LIG) with an annual income between Rs three lakh and Rs six lakh and the Middle Income Group (MIG) with an annual income between Rs six lakh and Rs 18 lakh.

Applicants who have received housing under any central, State or local government scheme in the past twenty years will not be eligible for assistance under PMAY-U 2.0. All applicants will be required to submit a declaration affidavit during the verification process by the municipal body and must prove that they were residing in the municipal area before September 1, 2024, the mayor added.
