MCD sets up shelter near Rispana Bridge, plans more across city

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE / Dehradun

The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) has installed a temporary shelter for commuters on the Haridwar Road near the Rispana bridge to provide relief to people waiting for public transport during the summer. The shelter has been set up using bamboo poles and green netting to provide shade from the sun.

Dehradun municipal commissioner Alok Kumar Pandey stated that the shelter has been set up for commuters waiting for buses, Vikrams and other public transport vehicles, particularly as a dedicated bus stop infrastructure is not available. He said that many people in the city are often forced to wait in the open under direct sunlight during summer. The newly installed shed is aimed at providing basic protection and improving convenience for daily commuters.

According to the MCD, the Rispana Bridge area was selected due to its high pedestrian movement and public transport activity. Pandey said that the shelter is part of efforts to improve public amenities at busy locations in the city.

He said that this is the first such shelter installed by the corporation and similar structures are planned at other locations with high footfall. The civic body is identifying spots where large numbers of people regularly wait for public transport so that additional shelters can be installed in the coming months. The initiative is aimed at making public spaces more commuter-friendly and providing residents with protection from changing weather conditions throughout the year, he added.
