Police to maximise use of modern tech & curb various crimes in Kumaon, says IG

The police will focus on maximising the use of modern technology, execute government policies on the ground and work to curb crimes against women and children. Stating this after assuming charge as the inspector general of Kumaon range here on Tuesday, Nivedita Kukreti said that her priorities also include improving the traffic system and consistent action against the illegal trade in intoxicants.

Regarding the tourist season, the IG said that tourism is a major basis of the economy and employment in the region. However, the arrival of a large number of tourists during the season also increases the traffic load on roads. The police and administration make advane arrangements to deal with such a situation. Kukreti said that traffic management can be made more effective with the better use of modern and digital resources. These resources can enable advance estimation of traffic related problems which in turn can help the authorities take necessary preventive or corrective measures. Referring to cyber crimes, she said that the Central government has recently launched a portal which can help in considerably checking such crimes. She stressed on the importance of raising public awareness in order to prevent people from falling prey to cyber crimes. The IG further said that police officers and employees will also be provided necessary information and training on this aspect so that effective action can be ensured against cyber crimes.
