PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE / Dehradun
The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) officials on Friday stated that the first phase of the Census 2027 exercise will begin across the city from Saturday, with enumerators set to carry out a citywide door-to-door building survey.
The officials said that the initial phase will focus on house listing and building enumeration, aimed at identifying the number of houses in each locality, new constructions since 2011 and the families residing in them. The second phase will entail collection of socio-economic details through a 34-question survey. Training of enumerators has been underway for the past few days at multiple locations, including the town hall. During the sessions, officers briefed survey staff on procedures, responsibilities and the use of a mobile application for digital data collection, officials said.
The officials clarified that enumerators will not ask for Aadhaar cards, voter IDs or any other documents and residents have been advised to remain cautious if anyone seeks such information during the exercise.
For the survey, the municipal area has been divided into five zones, with 1,958 house-listing blocks created. About 340 supervisors have been deployed to monitor the work. The officials added that even households that completed self-enumeration online will still be physically verified by field staff. Closed houses and vacant plots will not be counted in the main listing but will be recorded separately. Tenants will be included in the survey, while property owners will be counted at their place of residence.
Each enumerator has been assigned a target of covering around 150 households within a month. The officials said that the exercise may be more challenging in newly added municipal areas such as Balawala, Mohkampur, Malsi, Danda Lakhond, Kunawala, Nakraunda, Nehrugram, Arcadia, Nawada and Badripur, which were recently brought under the corporation limits.
In the second phase, residents will be asked to share information related to education, employment, housing conditions and access to basic services as part of the detailed socio-economic survey, officials said.
