The Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) demolished illegal plotting on around 100 bighas of land in Sahaspur and sealed several unauthorized buildings in Dalanwala and Paundha on Monday. A dispute also broke out between a landowner and flat owners during the sealing drive in Dalanwala, prompting police intervention. Subsequently, four persons, including a woman, were arrested, charged under the sections related to creating disturbances in public places.
In Krishna Colony, Dalanwala, the MDDA officials reached the site with police to seal unauthorised portions of two apartment buildings. During the operation, the fourth floor of one building was sealed. While the action was underway, a dispute erupted between landowner Rajeev Yadav and members of the other party. The argument soon turned into a physical fight, but police quickly controlled the situation. The arrested persons have been identified as Anuradha Singh, Chandra Pratap Singh, Rajeev Yadav and Sagar Kumar under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) for disturbing public order.
Yadav alleged that some flats had been sold illegally by one of his partners in 2024 without his consent and that he had not received his rightful share. On the other hand, flat owners claimed they had legal rights over the properties. Police said further legal action would be taken based on complaints from both sides.
According to the MDDA officials, the biggest action was taken in Jatowala, Sahaspur, where around 100 bighas of land were allegedly being developed into an illegal colony without approval. The authority demolished roads and other structures built for the plotting. In Paundha, two multi-storey buildings on Phulsaini Road were sealed for allegedly violating the approved building plan.
The MDDA vice-chairman Banshidhar Tiwari said that illegal plotting and unauthorised construction would not be tolerated. He urged people to verify the legal status and approvals of any property before purchasing it. “Our drive against illegal constructions will continue across the district,” he added.
