Officer demanding security from mafia exposes pathetic law & order situation: Dasauni

The chief spokesperson of Uttarakhand Congress, Garima Dasauni has said that the demand for security made by the sub divisional forest officer of Chakrata forest division, Rajiv Nayan Nautiyal following threat to his life from the mining mafia has again exposed the pathetic law and order situation in the State.
She said that what is distressing is that despite many requests, the officer was not provided adequate protection. Dasauni said that the mining mafia is ruling the roost under the BJP rule. She said that instead of taking strict action on the mafia plundering rivers, forests and damaging the environment, the government has remained only a mute spectator.
“One can imagine the condition of the general public when an officer of the government feels unsafe and pleads for security,’’ she said.
Dasauni said that voices against the illegal mining in the State have been rising within the State BJP as well. Former chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat, BJP MLA from Vikasnagar Munna Singh Chauhan and Gadarpur MLA Arvind Pandey have criticised the BJP government on various occasions in the past on the issue.
She demanded Nautiyal should be provided adequate security with immediate effect and an impartial investigation should be conducted on the threats he is receiving. The government should also undertake an action against the illegal mining network active in the State and its protectors.
