UVSP to launch holistic evaluation system in 95 secondary schools

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE | Ramnagar

As part of a pilot project, the Uttarakhand Vidyalayi Shiksha Parishad (UVSP) will launch a holistic evaluation system in 95 secondary schools throughout the State. This initiative aligns with the directives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which emphasises that students should be assessed not solely on academic performance but also on intellectual, behavioural and emotional criteria.

The secretary of UVSP, Vinod Kumar Simlati said that even students who achieve scores of 90 per cent can experience feelings of depression due to an inability to recognise their full potential. The holistic evaluation aims to uncover the hidden talents of students, providing them with the guidance they need to thrive. Additionally, it will facilitate a better understanding of how students view their families and society, he said.

Further, the research officer of the UVSP, Shailendra Joshi stated that every student will receive a booklet. This booklet will facilitate self-assessment, allowing students to define their aspirations, interests, skills and emotional dimensions. Subsequently, evaluations will also be contributed by their peers and parents.

In the end, the teacher’s assessment will be incorporated into the booklet. This three-tier evaluation process aims to highlight the overall abilities of the student. To kick off the project, a workshop is scheduled to take place in Ramnagar on September 11 and 12, which will involve Chief Education Officers (CEOs) and Block Education Officers (BEOs) from throughout the State, he said.
