Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Monday led a special cleanliness drive at Ballupur Chowk as the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) concluded its Swachhta Week campaign focussed on sanitation awareness and waste management.
The CM participated in the cleanliness drive and urged citizens to remain committed to maintaining a clean environment. The campaign, conducted from April 7 to 13, aimed to make the city clean, beautiful and healthy through sanitation drives across various wards, waste disposal efforts and public awareness programmes. During the event, benches and dustbins made from recycled plastic were inaugurated under a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative of Bisleri. The initiative promotes the reuse of plastic waste and strengthens the city’s solid waste management system while encouraging sustainable urban sanitation practices.
Dhami, along with other officials, also paid tribute at the freedom fighters’ memorial near Ballupur flyover and carried out a cleanliness drive in the surrounding area to improve the upkeep of public spaces and promote responsible civic behaviour. Addressing the gathering, the CM emphasised that cleanliness cannot be achieved by government efforts alone and requires active public participation. He said that cleanliness should be an integral part of daily life and that lasting change is possible only when every citizen voluntarily contributes. He urged residents to take responsibility for keeping their homes, neighbourhoods and city clean.
Interacting with sanitation workers, Dhami described them as the “real heroes” of the cleanliness mission and appreciated their role in maintaining a hygienic urban environment.
Mayor Saurabh Thapliyal, cabinet ministers Ganesh Joshi and Khajan Dass, BJP State president and Rajya Sabha MP Mahendra Bhatt, MLA Savita Kapoor, municipal commissioner Namami Bansal and others were also present on the occasion.
