The Haridwar-Roorkee Development Authority (HRDA) and Haridwar Sports Complex have launched the Play to Rise scheme. This scheme will enable youngsters from economically weaker backgrounds to receive better training in sports, enhancing their potential to build a career in sports.

The HRDA vice chairman Anshul Singh said that the Play to Rise scholarship will facilitate a one-year free training in sports like football, badminton and cricket for children from economically weak families. Experienced coaches will provide training to the children under this scheme. Singh said that this scheme has been started on the directions of chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. He said, “Our aim is to ensure that any talent in sports is not wasted just because of lack of financial resources. We want to polish the youngsters of Haridwar through sports under this programme and also prepare them for a better future,” the HRDA vice chairman said.

The youngsters who receive quality training in sports will also be in a better position to bring laurels to the State and nation. Along with facilitation of sports training, the Play to Rise programme will also enhance self confidence and discipline among the youngsters, Singh added.
