Police impose penalty on 75 property owners for not verifying tenants in Doon

The police imposed a fine of Rs 7.5 lakh on 75 property owners for failing to verify tenants under Section 83 of the Police Act on Tuesday.
The action came as part of an ongoing verification campaign directed by Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh to monitor outsiders and prevent criminal activity across the city. He informed that the police teams conducted verification drives in the Selaqui and Nehru Colony areas on Tuesday and covered locations such as Jamnapur, Peeth Wali Gali, Thapa Wali Gali, Eidgah Colony, Nigam Road, Bajrangali, Rajiv Nagar, and Rispana Nagar. The police verified more than 1,100 individuals residing in hostels, home stays and rental accommodations.
He informed that during the drive, 83 challans were issued against 75 hostel and homestay operators and landlords for not conducting tenant verifications. The police collected a total penalty of Rs 7.5 lakh and issued eight challans under Section 81 of the Police Act for rule violations, collecting Rs 2,000 in fines.
The police teams also brought 35 individuals found moving suspiciously in the area to the local police stations for questioning. The verification campaign will continue across various parts of the city to ensure peace, law and order, Singh said.
