Police nab accused for duping man of Rs 38.25 lakh

The police arrested Dinesh Singh Padiyar (51) for allegedly cheating people by selling land using fake documents. The accused is said to have taken Rs 38.25 lakh from a victim in the name of land registration. He was arrested by Raiwala police near ISBT in Dehradun on Wednesday.

According to the police, the complainant Pratap Singh, a resident of Raiwala, had filed a complaint on June 12. He alleged that Padiyar cheated him by promising to sell land allotted for Tehri dam displaced persons in Raiwala. The accused did not get the land registered and fraudulently took Rs 38.25 lakh from him.

After the complaint, a case was registered at Raiwala police station. On the instructions of the senior superintendent of police, a police team was formed to arrest the accused. After continuous efforts and informer inputs, the police arrested the accused on Thursday.

During questioning, the accused admitted that he used fake Aadhaar cards, forged agreements and false signatures to carry out the fraud. He also told the police that he was in debt due to drug addiction and cheated people to get money. Police said that the accused has a previous fraud case registered against him at Prem Nagar police station.

The police further said that investigation is going on and details of the accused’s criminal history in other districts and states are being collected.
