The police have intensified the investigation and actions being taken to nab the culprits involved in the heist carried out in the Reliance Jewels showroom in Dehradun on November 9. The chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and director general of police Ashok Kumar have directed the police to ensure that the culprits are brought to book. In the investigation, the police have learnt some facts about the culprits and their actions in the days leading to the heist in which jewellery amounting to about Rs 10 crore is estimated to have been robbed.

On Saturday, the Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh held a meeting with officials to review the investigation in this case. The aspects of the incident ascertained so far during the investigation were also discussed in the meeting. According to the police, it is learnt that three to four days before the incident, five persons had come to Haridwar and stayed there. Information was also gained about attempts to carry out similar crimes with the same modus operandi at Katni in Madhya Pradesh in April and at Latur in Maharashtra during August this year. The culprits were able to escape from the scene of crime in both the cases. The Maharashtra police are bringing the leader of the gang involved in these crimes- Subodh, who is imprisoned in Patna jail, on a police production warrant to Latur. The police officials further said that the appearance of the accused who had escaped after the incidents in Katni and Latur match those of the culprits involved in the Dehradun robbery. Considering the possibility of these two incidents being connected to the Dehradun robbery, the police have formed teams and sent them to collect detailed information from the places in question. It was also stated that the Dehradun district police and police from other States have secured important CCTV camera footage. Further, the police have learnt so far that the gang involved in the Dehradun robbery has a network spread to West Bengal, Bihar and Nepal. Police teams have been sent to these places to collect more information. Considering the pattern of the crime committed in the Reliance Jewels showroom in Dehradun and other important evidence, the police have come to know that the culprits reconnoitered the showroom for months before commiting the crime. Further, the culprits were also possibly aware of a large quantity of items being brought to the jewellery showroom on November 7. Considering this, the role of the company which supplied the items to the store is also being probed. The police are also probing all angles and questioning all suspects considering that the Reliance showrooms appear to be targeted more for loot, said the police.
