Promote senior Anganwadi workers every year, demands Negi

PIONEEREDGE NEWS SERVICE | Dehradun

The president of the Anganwadi Workers Association, Rekha Negi stated that the Women Empowerment and Child Development (WECD) department should promote all senior Anganwadi workers based on their qualifications every year.

During a recent meeting with Anganwadi workers who have completed 18 years and hold a BA degree, Negi discussed the importance of promoting workers based on seniority. She emphasised that there have been no promotions in the past four years, making it essential for the WECD department to implement promotions.

Negi highlighted that there are many vacancies for supervisor positions in the WECD department, with one supervisor currently managing 90 centres whereas the ideal ratio is 20 to 25 centres per supervisor. Therefore, she emphasised the need for annual promotions based on seniority and qualifications.

Negi further said that they plan to address these concerns with the organisation minister soon. If their demands continue to be overlooked, they will be compelled to stage protests and advocate for an increase in their honorarium.

The WECD department and the government have not acknowledged the memorandums submitted by the workers. Soon, a date for a district-level rally and demonstration will be decided to demand an increase in honorarium and a retirement benefit of Rs 10 lakh.

It’s worth noting that Anganwadi workers have previously voiced their concerns regarding retirement benefits provided by the state government. For several years, they have consistently requested higher monthly wages and better retirement benefits from the State government.
