The chief electoral officer (CEO) Uttarakhand, BVRC Purushottam has warned that punitive action will be taken against the officers involved in negligence in the ongoing process of Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in the State. The CEO gave the warning during a video conferencing session with the divisional commissioners of Garhwal and Kumaon and district magistrates of Dehradun, Udham Singh Nagar, Haridwar and Nainital on Monday.
The CEO categorically stated that all claims and objections should be heard as per the rules and warned that negligence will not be tolerated. In the meeting, the DMs of Udham Singh Nagar, Haridwar and Nainital gave a detailed presentation on the action taken in their districts so far regarding the disposal of claims and objections, and their future strategy. He directed the DMs to maintain regular communication with political parties and media at the district level.
In the review meeting, the CEO also sought detailed information from the districts regarding the disposal of Form VI, VII and VIII. He directed that booths where there is a possibility of more than four percent additions and more than two per cent should be personally inspected/reviewed by the concerned ERO and action should be taken as per the rules.
In the meeting the CEO took feedback on the recent district visits of Kumaun commissioner Deepak Rawat and Garhwal commissioner Anand Swarup. He also instructed both commissioners to continue their field visits for SIR.
Additional CEO Vijay Kumar Jogdande, joint CEO Prakash Chandra Dumka, assistant CEO Mastu Das also attended the meeting.
