Shankarpur and Kedarpuram shelters taking full care of cattle health: MCD

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun
The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun has claimed to have implemented adequate cattle management arrangements at Shankarpur and Kedarpuram shelter homes, providing improved shelter, veterinary care and sanitation to facilitate animal welfare during the winter season. Informing this on Wednesday, the senior veterinary officer, Dr Varun Agrawal stated that the facilities are equipped to handle the current cattle population while meeting the basic animal health and hygiene standards. “Temporary sheds have been installed at both locations, with tarpaulin coverings used to protect animals from cold weather and exposure,” he said.
The civic body officers said that dedicated staff have been deployed to oversee daily operations, including cleaning, feeding and general maintenance of the shelters. Adequate quantities of cattle feed are being supplied based on requirement aside from ensuring that clean drinking water is available at both sites, they said.
Veterinary doctors and para-veterinary personnel are stationed at the facilities to monitor cattle health and provide treatment as needed.
“Regular health checks are being conducted to prevent the spread of diseases and ensure early medical intervention,” Dr Agrawal said, adding that animal welfare remains a priority for the administration.
Roughly 400 cattle are currently housed at the Shankarpur shelter while about 300 animals are being maintained at the cow shelter facility in Kedarpuram, according to the official estimates.
The MCD officials further said that the issue of capacity expansion had been discussed at a recent board meeting. Proposals were reviewed to further enhance infrastructure and services if cattle numbers increase in the coming months, they informed.
