Tourism department to review 45 applications under Veer Chandra Singh Garhwali scheme

The Uttarakhand Tourism Department will review 45 applications received under the Veer Chandra Singh Garhwali Tourism Self-Employment Scheme today. 

Dehradun district tourism development officer Jas Chauhan said that out of the 45 applications received under the scheme, 40 are related to the establishment of hotels and the purchase of tourist vehicles, while five applications have been submitted for setting up homestays.

Beneficiaries in the vehicle category receive a subsidy of 25 per cent, while those applying under the non-vehicle category are eligible for a subsidy of 33 per cent. Pandey said that the projects up to a maximum cost of Rs one crore can be covered under the scheme. He said that the review meeting on Friday will examine all applications, supporting documents and project proposals to verify their eligibility before forwarding them for further approval and financial assistance. Chauhan said that the Veer Chandra Singh Garhwali Tourism Self-Employment Scheme has been launched to encourage local residents to establish tourism-related enterprises and generate self-employment opportunities. Under the scheme, eligible beneficiaries receive financial assistance to start ventures such as hotels, homestays and tourist transport services, helping strengthen tourism infrastructure while creating livelihood opportunities.

Officials said that tourism remains one of the major sectors supporting the State’s economy and schemes promoting hotels, homestays and transport facilities are expected to improve visitor amenities while creating employment opportunities at the local level. The suggestions finalised during Friday’s meeting will be sent to the senior officials for final approval and releasing of money under the scheme.
