SIR in Uttarakhand: Election Commission appoints 167 new AEROs

The Election Commission of India has appointed 167 new assistant electoral registration officers (AERO) as part of its preparations for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls in Uttarakhand.
At present there are SDM ranked 70 electoral registration officers (ERO) and 268 AEROs in 70 assembly constituencies of the State. After the appointment of the new AEROs, their number in the State has increased to 435.
The ECI has appointed 11 EROs in Uttarkashi, 20 in Chamoli, eight in Rudraprayag, 12 in Tehri Garhwal, 13 in Dehradun, 19 in Haridwar, 20 in Pauri, 14 in Pithoragarh, three in Bageshwar, 12 in Almora, six in Champawat,11 in Nainital and 18 in Udham Singh Nagar district.
The additional chief electoral officer VK Jogdande said that the ECI has appointed new AEROs for upcoming SIR activity only. He said that block development officers, executive engineers, assistant municipal commissioners and land consolidation officers have been appointed as the AEROs.
Jogdande said that under the booth level officer (BLO) outreach campaign, orders for striking a contact and communication have been given. He said that the EROs and AEROs will monitor the outreach programme being conducted by the BLOs.
