State govt discriminating against native officers in transfers: Godiyal

PIONEER NEWS SERVICE/ Dehradun

Former Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Ganesh Godiyal has accused the State government of discriminating with the officers who are the natives of the State in transfers and postings.

He said that the State government has recently affected large scale transfers of the officers of Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS) and other services and on the posts in the State secretariat.  The Congress leader claimed that a trend which is clearly discernible in these transfers is that the officers who are not the natives of the State are given priority over the natives. He said that non-native officers are being given key assignments which is a clear discrimination. Godiyal however added that he is not questioning the calibre of the non-native officers any person can be capable and competent.

The Congress leader said that the officers who are natives of Uttarakhand are equally if not more capable than the non-native officers. He claimed that preference given to officers who do not domicile residents of the State on key posts raises questions and suspicion that the government is engaging in activities which it wants to hide from local people.

Godiyal added that there is general perception that the State government is ignoring native officers in transfer and postings.
